''Welcome to our syndicate page. Our aim is to give you excitement and tremendous value,'' says Mark.

We have five horses syndicated at present:

Locum

5 yr. old, chesnut gelding by Dr. Fong ex Exhibitor (Royal Academy)

DSC_0034

25-08-96

Locum is the perfect syndicate horse: he is sound, genuine and consistent. His owners travel everywhere to watch him run and have had so many great days, that there are too many to mention. The champion jockey, Ryan Moore, gets on especially well with him and it is always a job to explain to one certain member that he has to ride for his boss sometimes! Locum loves fast ground and a fast run race, so certain tracks suit him better than others but wherever he goes he always gives his utmost and is loved by his doting syndicate members. He also likes polos!

Fully syndicated.

Training update - 25th August

Locum has had not much luck of late as the races, in which he has run, have not been run to suit him. It gets very frustrating, especially from the stands when, as soon as they have jumped out and gone a few furlongs, you know your fate. As we all know, he requires a soundly run race and his holding-up tactics need to be trouble free. I am sure we will soon get it right again and the only good thing to glean from his last few runs is that he is slipping down the handicap.
I took him up to the schooling grounds this week and he took to it like a duck to water. Colin Bolger schooled him and he jumped a dozen flights of full sized hurdles. He would need another couple of schooling sessions before he was ready to run, if we wanted to give him that alternative - food for thought for all syndicate members. Give Jenko a ring to discuss it but from my point of view, he enjoyed the experience and should be capable of winning races under National Hunt rules.

Fasette

3 yr. old bay filly by Fasiliyev ex Londonnet (Catrail)

Fasette is a big, scopey filly, whose members have had to be very patient. She only ran once as a two year old, where she showed promise and that all she has done since is grow and develop. The wait was made worthwhile, when she won at Yarmouth by five lengths to the delight of all that were there. She is still improving and on her favoured galloping track and soft ground, she is sure to win more races this season.

There are 6 shares available at a cost of £500.

Training update - 25th August

She has been very disappointing since her victory at Yarmouth in the spring with some very lacklustre performances, especially last time, so I decided to throw her in the deep end and give her a good schooling session at the Links. Ashley Morgan rode her, who had assured me he had been hunting in Wales lots of times and she took to it really well, had  a natural pop and for a longish filly had a real cut at her hurdles. She will have one more good session next week and then be entered to run. Sometimes this new discipline completely changes their outlook and enthuses horses, particularly fillies - let's hope this is the case.

 Captain Clint

3 yr. old bay gelding by Captain Rio ex Lake Poopo (Persian Heights)

Captain Clint is a very good-looking horse, who has needed time to grow into his frame. After a few runs at two years, he ran a sound race at Yarmouth on his re-appearance; his runs since have not been quite as good but he is not been able to run on his favoured easier ground. He will keep improving as the year goes on and has the size and scope to make a hurdler.

There are 4 shares available at a cost of £500

Training update - 25th August

Captain Clint went up with all the others to the schooling grounds today and after last times' good display, I was expecting the same but, to tell you the truth, he was in bad frame of mind and needed plenty of time to warm up and get into the swing of it again. Once his and the jockey's blood was up, things fell back into place and he performed as he should have done. He will be having another go next week with either Colin or Mattie on him and then be entred to run.

Comrade Bond

2 yr. old chesnut colt by Monsieur Bond ex Eurolink Cafe (Grand Lodge)

Comrade Bond is cracking colt with a great attitude and plenty of ability; he has been placed twice to date but has not yet had his favoured soft ground. He is very capable of winning his maiden but I will be going down the nursery handicap route, which I think will be right up his street. He has grown and developed during the spring and I am sure he will train on, as a three and four year old.

Fully syndicated

Training update - 25th August

Comrade Bond continues in very good heart. He worked well, across the Flat on Tuesday and has been entered at Warwick on Monday. He is still growing and developing and we are learning more about him each day. I will be running him several more times this autumn and, I am sure, we will be in the winners' enclosure soon. I have always had great faith in this horse and he is just one of those horses I really like.

Zenarinda

3 yr. old filly by Zamindar out of Tenpence (Bob Back)

Zenarinda

I am delighted that so many of the Red Smokey syndicate took up the offer of having the rest of the 2010 flat season, involved in such a nice filly. Her form is very sound and the potential for a good season is there for all to see. She must have the ground on the easy side though and her trip will be around a mile.

There are 3 shares available

Post-race comment after Windsor:

Once again, we found a race that was not run to suit with, absolutely, no pace on in the first half of the race and then a sprint in the final 2 furlongs. She again ran well against all the odds and will surely find a race to suit her before too long. Pat Cosgrove loves her and is convinced, once everything goes right, she will show her true worth.

As one of the pioneers of multiple ownership, Mark Tompkins is continuing his successful syndicates in 2010. One-twelfth shares in horses are available and we keep things simple.

Mike Jenkins, known to us all as Jenko (pictured left), runs the syndicates for Mark and is the main point of contact for all the members. An ex-amateur jockey who also used to ride out at Flint Cottage on a regular basis, he shares his enjoyment of the sport with the members via e-mail, telephone and in person.

Jenko's report - 31st August:

I don't think I can recall a race on fast ground, returning a time nearly ten seconds above the standard; unfortunately, this was the case for Locum at Folkestone. As a horse who likes a good, even gallop, there was never any chance that he would get into contention. Mark said that he will go down a few pounds in the handicap and, that being the case, he will be more than capable of picking up a race or two before the end of the season. Mark has also popped him over hurdles, which went well, as you may have seen on the 'Daily News' page. Captain Clint and Fasette  disappointed in their last runs and have both been schooled since. The picture of Fasette would make you think she could handle Becher's but the plan is to start over hurdles, if she continues to please. The same applies to Captain Clint, who has schooled well twice and is ready to run.

Comrade Bond continues to work well and Mark thinks his ideal trip is 5 furlongs. From what he has shown at home, he looks a well-handicapped horse and is sure to give us some excitement before the season is over.

Zenarinda has run well in all her races to date and, if the conditions and races suit, she is sure to do herself justice. The long term plan is to keep her in training next year and she looks sure to give us some good days' racing.

Finally, it seems that quite a few of our owners will be at the Yarmouth September meeting, planning to combine three good days' racing with a night at the dogs. I have decided to go myself to keep proper order and I will be sure to remember the dress code for Yarmouth in September - as many layers as possible!

Testimonials:

"I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute I have spent as a part of such a fantastic yard... a special thanks must go to you Mr Jenkins... you know your job and are always on hand to answer any questions."

"Saying that it was the best day of my life would be to understate how I felt, one or two people thought I was having a heart attack when he crossed the line in front. I was more in danger of that when we got on the champagne."

Locum winning at Yarmouth

"What a fantastic day!... It was great to meet the other members, what a lovely bunch of people."

"Another brilliant win and a great day out for us all! Well done and many thanks to all the team."

''Congratulations on the new website. I love it.''

''I can appreciate  there has been a great deal of thought and planning gone into building the site, you have done an excellent job. Clean and easy to navigate too, which is a must for a user-friendly website.''

''Just viewed the new website - it's great.''

HOW WE OPERATE:

  • All net prize-money won and the proceeds of any sale are divided proportionately between members.
  • Our owners are welcome to visit the yard to see their horses in training on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • One complimentary owners' badge is guaranteed per member when your horse runs.
  • There is no limit to the number of shares an individual, or group of people, can hold.
  • Some members have been with us since the 1980s, which is testament in itself to the enjoyment these syndicates bring.

Once a twelfth share has been purchased, a monthly payment of £180 to be paid retrospectively (starting from December 1st 2010) is required to cover all keep costs. A discount of 10% is offered for a full year's payment in advance and a 5% discount on future purchases for anyone introducing a new owner.

There will be nothing more to pay, other than in exceptional circumstances such as travel to race abroad or unusual veterinary bills. The monthly payment covers basic training costs, entry fees, travel to meetings, jockey fees, farrier's charges etc.

It is the responsibility of each individual member to sell his or her share if they wish to leave the syndicate, although obviously we would help with this as far as possible. If payments are not received for two successive months the share will be deemed to have lapsed, and will be lost with no refund or prize share due.

Our aim at Flint Cottage is for every member to experience the joy of racehorse ownership:

- We run each syndicate with the personal touch

- Each member will be kept fully updated on the progress of their horse

- We strive to create a sense of involvement for everyone, not only in their own horse but also in the whole stable

We are constantly looking to put together new syndicates, so if you are interested in becoming involved, either in one of our present syndicates, or in the future, please contact:

Mike Jenkins, our syndicate manager, on 07774 784497 or e-mail him on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
